Memberships
Join the Maker Community
Memberships provide you with access to the tools and space to create (almost) anything!
Whether you are an artist, engineer, designer, educator, inventor, student or hobbyist - this space will help cultivate your creativity by learning new skills, experimenting with new techniques, and collaborating with others to level up your work.
Membership terms are a minimum of 3 Months - you can save by paying your membership dues quarterly.
Desk and Studio membership terms are a minimum of 6 months.
Annual corporate memberships are available and provide floating access to your entire staff (up to 6 in the space at a time).
Your membership fees are a key part of supporting the space with regular overhead and maintenance costs. Memberships are not able to be paused, you can cancel after your 3 Month term and re-instate your membership again in the future if you choose. Members are encouraged to view their membership fees as a donation to the maker community and not just a fee for access - thank you for being a Member/Donor and keeping this vital resource available for the whole community.
What's included?
Access to 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, CNC, Precision Mill, Vinyl Cutter, Sewing Machines, Soldering Stations, microcontrollers/microcomputers, Vacuum Former, Pressure Former, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Workstations with design software, and much more!
What's NOT included?
Machines require constant maintenance and upkeep - not all tools/machines will always be available if they are under repair or service. Membership doesn't include immediate access to any single piece of equipment. The machines are first come first served. You'll have to wait for the next available time. The general rule is members can use a machine for 1 hour slots and should yield the machine if someone else is waiting. If an educational program or special event is using equipment or common spaces, they will be unavailable for general use until after the educational program or special event concludes. A shared calendar will help you navigate the schedule and plan accordingly.
Materials - If your project requires wood, plastic sheets, etc. You need to bring those or purchase them from the space. You may inquire about scrap materials for testing. Note that for digital fabrication equipment like 3D printers, you must provide the manufacturer's filament (ie. MakerBot Filament for MakerBot Printer) If you choose to experiment with 3rd party materials, you must also provide your own extruder.
Consumables - Doing a big CNC project? Bring your own Bit(s)! Planning on chop sawing hundreds of wood planks? Bring in a blade! Using the orbital sanders? Bring a pack of sandpaper. The shop may have these things on hand so you can get your project done more quickly, but you should replace what you use up.
Service/Labor- While collaboration is highly encouraged - our organization does not have the staff available to help you design a custom thing, teach you how to make X,Y, or Z etc. If you want someone to design something for you, you'll have to get a quote from them and pay them for their services - whether it be one of our staff, a volunteer, or another member. If you haven't taken the laser cutter class or the 3D printing class, etc. You'll need to pay a fee of $30/hr. to program the equipment for your project.
Storage - While you can request a "Parking Pass" for projects in progress for up to 3 Days at a time when space is available, you will have to pay a storage fee for things you want to leave at the space more permanently. Consult with a staff member about your storage needs.
Member Responsibilities
Community is not a spectator sport. Since this space is shared with many different people, we all have a role to play to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for all.
Safety - All members in the space must wear the appropriate protective equipment for the activity they are doing, including but not limited to: Eye protection, Hearing protection, Masks, gloves, etc. If in doubt, ask a staff member. If you don't feel confident using a tool or machine, ask a staff member to show you its basic and safe operation. See someone misusing a tool or not practicing safety protocols? Have them stop immediately and contact a staff member. Member access extends beyond regular business hours - this means there is "no lifeguard on duty" and members operate at their own risk.
Courtesy - Loud Conversation or Music? Take the chat outside or wear headphones. It's great to be social but let's not interrupt folks trying to finish a project. Make sure your words and your actions are respectful of everyone in the space. We are an inclusive and safe space and there will be zero tolerance for bullying/harassment of any kind. Asking lots of folks for their ideas or help? make sure they're not deep into another project. And if their contribution is critical to your project, consider contracting their services!
Stewardship - Did you just work on a project that made the space dusty or dirty? Clean up the mess! There are brooms and mops available for your use. Did your project create a lot of trash that doesn't fit in the receptacle inside? Ask for access to the dumpster and you'll get a cart to help move the waste. Monthly "Space Improvement Days" will be scheduled and during those hours no projects are able to be worked on. Participation is highly encouraged to help maintain and improve the shared space. Tasks on Space Improvement Day will include: Oiling/Cleaning the machines, Organizing tools and materials, Sweeping/Mopping/Cleaning, staining or repainting areas or furnishings, Preparing materials for community outreach/educational programs, etc. There are also plenty of other optional volunteer opportunities for outreach and educational programs - inquire with our staff.
Membership is a privilege. Members not adhering to our safety, inclusion, and stewardship responsibilities will be given up to 3 warnings. If problems persist, the board will vote to temporarily suspend or even permanently rescind your membership when appropriate.
